WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!?

    DIG:2003 #173
A skeleton in the bowl hole graveyard

What this skeleton told us: Evidence

A 7 to 9 year old child with both milk teeth and adult teeth present. Some thinning of the enamel was present on some of the erupting adult teeth (enamel defects, or hypoplasia) and some teeth had plaque on them.

    Interpretation of the evidence

Child mortality was high in Anglo-Saxon Britain. This child probably died from a communicable disease (infection). Evidence for enamel hypoplasia illustrates that in childhood he/she had a deficient diet or disease.
